In our textbook Table 4.4 (p179, shown below), different types of enzyme+PLP catalyzed reactions are listed. We have discussed (and will discuss) the first 4 types in details, i.e. racemization, decarboxylation, transamination (Thurs 01/26/23 ), and -cleavage (serine to formaldehyde Thurs 01/26/23 ). However, other PLP reactions are possible, such as the other 4 types listed below. Given your newly acquired knowledge of PLP, can you figure out the arrow-pushing mechanisms of these other 4 types of PLP reactions? -elimination is explained in Scheme 4.20 on p185. The homework is to write out proposed mechanisms for the other 3 types, -replacement, yelimination and Wreplacement. These are topics covered by exam 1. X= leaving group; Y= nucleophile.
