The change I want to recommend will reflect the same as my board proposal for JWI 599, the introduction of scan-and-go technology to Target to further enhance the already successful self-service options like online orders, store pick-up, and self-checkout. Note, I will not create a loss of job positions for cashiers, but will repurpose them to serve as logistics team members who will continually push items from stock to shelves throughout the day. It is important to continue in the realm of innovation for eliminating delayed gratification for the customers (1). Knowing that there will be guests who do not want to practice in the change, we will continue to have a few registers open to serve them. The scan-and-go technology has been successfully employed by Sams Club, Walmart, and Amazon, which further enhances the need to adopt a similar method to continue the momentum in self-service sales that are currently being experienced by Target.

In response to recent high-level success in self-service sales methods, employing the scan-and-go technology to enhance customer experience and create more team member availability to ensure shelves remained stocked will provide more throughput for goods. Increased availability of items on shelves will result in more purchases made, especially on priority 1 items that the everyday guest purchases frequently. The employment of this new form of self-service will eliminate wait times at the cash register while increasing throughput of goods through repurposing of positions.
How do you predict stakeholders will react to this change vision?
I believe stakeholders will have a positive reaction as long as the change is properly communicated and backed with effective data. Over the past year, Targets leaders have openly discussed and trained team members in the effectiveness of self-service options, which has assisted in the booming growth in the use of these services coupled with effective marketing. Leadership will be essential during the pitch and implementation of the new service because a transition can become chaotic if the environment is not conducive for open and analytical communication (3).
