Marx describes capitalism as a "system of structured inequality." Using specific examples from the materials this week, explain the ways we can observe workers being alienated and exploited (as explained by Marx) in the modern workplace. For example, some of our materials this week explore the ways that employers increase surplus labor and value (i.e., profits). What are the various strategies used in workplaces to increase surplus labor and value? Have you ever experienced any of these in your everyday work? What are the larger benefits and consequences of these increase labor and value strategies? Overall, given what you've learned about Marx and his ideas, do you think capitalism is as exploitative and alienating to individuals as Marx describes it to be? Why/why not?
