Remember this is a labour economics course, so you need to focus on the labour aspects, using what you have read and learned in the textbook. Using the concepts from the textbook, answer the following questions.

Part A (12.5 marks - 2.5 marks each)

Our lives were totally disrupted by COVID 19. People were laid off, companies were told to close, and many people are still working from home. In this part I want you to discuss the impact of this crisis on employment and labour in Canada.

Choose a Canadian industry or company to answer the questions in Part A.

1. What was the impact on this industry and its workers when Covid hit? How did it react when the industry was shut down?
2. How did the government respond to financially support the workers hurt by the impact of COVID 19? What impact did Covid 19 have on employment and unemployment (be specific) in Canada,and on the industry, you chose?
3. Did the government enact any labour laws to protect workers' rights in the industry you chose during this crisis? Do you think these policies and laws were appropriate, or inappropriate, adequate, or inadequate?
4. Now that we have reopened, what measures are being taken by the federal and the provincial governments to keep workers safe, and increase employment?
5. If the industry is a union environment, do you feel the union supported the workers or made it more difficult for them, both during the pandemic and upon reopening?
