It is important to identify risks when planning a project because then it can help the project manager make better decisions. Not only does it benefit the project manager, but it gives the stakeholders a better idea of what they are dealing with. Risk can have negative and positive impacts on a project. I am planning a destination wedding with a budget of $30,000, potential risks that could jeopardize my project include:

  1. Budgeting: If my bride and groom under budget then they will be stressed out if they don't have enough money to pay for something they need. I must sit down with them at the very beginning of this project to go over the cost of every specific vendor so they can see where their money is going. Sitting down and discussing the cost of each specific thing, should help creat a budget that is realistic.
  2. Over planning: If the bride and groom make to many plans that aren't realistic, it can be overwhelming. The bride and groom need to sit down and make a want and needs list to see what is important and needs to be planned, and what can be canceled so there isn't to much to plan.
  3. Guest list: The bride and groom need to decide who should and shouldn't be invited to the wedding. They should sit down and discuss this at least a few different times and write it out a few times so they can see who they are missing and who they can agree on that doesn't need to come.
  4. Vendors: I am hiring an outside caterer, DJ, and bartender. There is a lot of risk relying on three outside vendors to help make this day special. I will have individual sit down meetings with each vendor to go over wedding day specifics, and what their responsibilities will be.

For my project, I am renovating my treatment room and some of my potential risk include

1. Delay shipping of anything ordered online. I plan to try and buy everything to avoid having to wait or risk a package being lost or stolen. I plan on buying my dresser at Ikea. If it is out of stock I can pick up in store.

2. Storage containers not fitting into the dresser or storage containers not fitting my disposable supplies. After I have the dresser assembled I will be able to take measurements so I have an idea at The Container Store how I will set up my supplies.

3. Going over time. During the last week on my project I have my books closed and clients are aware I will be renovating my room. If I don't get my project done in time I'll have to reschedule clients. Some clients do not have a flexiable schedule.

4. Going over budget. To prevent this from happnening I will make a list of what is most important for example the dresser and organizational bins. The reason for my project is improve storage and utilization of my treatment room.

  • Allow individuals to communicate with each other from the comfort of their own space at any given time.
  • Cost effective as it is a lot cheaper to send a message to someone abroad rather than using the traditional phone call.
  • Speed and time as it allows the relaying of messages to be delivered at a rapid speed .

Cons-

  • Unemployment- Due to digital communication expansions over the years some individuals can lose their jobs to automotive systems.
  • Privacy- Ever heard the saying "what goes on the Internet stays on the Internet"? Conversations can easily be tracked leaving individuals' privacy at risk.
  • Lack of job security- Due to the fact that the information is on a digital platform it can make it vulnerable to hackers.

There are many pros and cons to using digital communication in a project. Whether you are using a phone, computer, email, or social media, there are always going to be ups and downs. When using a phone, you are able to communicate faster with the recipient, however, there is no face to face or in person contact if that is something you value more. It is also faster than texting or email. Another pro os being able to save information that was communicated between you and another fellow coworker. Although, there is a risk of losing information or data being wiped if you are not careful. An article I found sates that "By working with a solution provider you can be sure to receive appropriate strategic and technical advice as well as user training on the tools. As a starting point, companies should speak to employees to find out what communications tools they are already using and which ones they would prefer to be introduced into the work environment, then set some guidelines on how and where to use newly deployed tools" (Sharp, 2020). The pro to using digital communication is the fast communication, however, the con is having to train everybody on how to use it if they don't know how to. It can be difficult for some people using digital communication because they might not have ever used it or are just old fashioned and do not wish to adapt.
