PLEASE RESPOND TO THE POST
I was raised to follow gender stereotypes, but I also was not. In the book it mentioned that girls will be told how good young ladies they are when they do an act pertaining to their gender. (Hyde & Delamater, 2020). I was told something like this a handful of times when I was in my teen years when I was maturing and becoming a nice young lady. The book also talked about toys and how they are genderized. Parents will push girls to play with girl toys and boys to play with boy toys or parents will look down on their children for playing with the opposite sex toys. (Hyde & Delamater, 2020). When my sister and I were younger we were bought barbies, baby dolls, play makeup, littlest pet shop, etc. Eventually, our toys did evolve due to my mom running an at home daycare where we had trucks, cars, farm toys, Legos, etc. My sister and I or any of the other girls that were at our house were not discouraged when we would play with the boy toys or vise vera when the boys would play with the girl toys. I do believe that I was raised more towards following gender stereotypes than not. This has affected how I act and see the world today because while growing up I was taught interpretations of the role that I was supposed to take on out into the community. (Moore, 2023). I learned these roles by watching my parents where my mom would do her makeup or get dressed up for an outing or event and my dad would work in his bow shop or tinker in the garage. (Moore, 2023). By learning gender roles early on in life it influenced me to continue the gender stereotypes.
