The country that I will be discussing is Cuba. Since Fidel Castro came into power in 1959, Cuba has been a socialist state. The government has complete control over all industries and the economy. This has had a negative effect on the economy, as GDP growth has been very slow and there has been little economic development. The government has also been unable to provide basic goods and services to the population, leading to widespread poverty and hardship. There have been some positive effects of socialism in Cuba as well. The government has been able to provide free education and healthcare to the population. The literacy rate is now one of the highest in the world and life expectancy has increased significantly. However, the negative effects of socialism have outweighed the positive ones in Cuba. The country is now in a state of economic decline, with little hope for improvement in the near future.
