1. As we leave early adulthood and go into middle adulthood, there are some undeniably changes that happen to us, whether it is physical changes, mental changes, emotional changes, as well as body system changes. Some body systems that we start to notice a change in our muscle strength, and how it will slowly start to weaken. Our metabolism also slowly starts to decline, which can lead to less lean muscle and more of a fatty tissue, leading to easier weight gain. Lastly, our bones can start to become more brittle and tolerate less that we were once used to. As for emotionally, there are so many stressful things that can happen throughout life, but as a middle aged adult, it may seem like a lot more. For example, career changes, self doubt, midlife crisis, the loss of parents or siblings, and even huge health issues that may arise. While going through any of the stressors that can happen/ will happen to everyone at some point in their life, it is important to try and remain grounded. If the option of a caretaker is available, they may be able to take on some of these hardships or help through them to take some of your stress away. For example, they may help by taking care of children or parents if that is the case, and making sure the right medications are being taken at the right time, and that the person being cared for is well taken care of. Something I say often is, it always takes a village to raise children, and the more I tend to think on it, not only does it change, but it also grows. You may need that village to help with mom or dad who are now sick, living at home, or help from a church in financial hardships. Although getting older can be stressful, it can also be such a joyful time and a time to cherish!
2. In middle adulthood, physically people do not age in the same way or at the same pace. For those who live a healthier lifestyle by eating a well-balanced diet and exercising undergo only a gradual and minor physical decline. In middle adulthood a person would experience some changes physically such as changes in metabolism, muscle mass, strength, bone density, and blood-sugar tolerance. Cognitively people in middle adulthood are at their "peak" in many intellectual functions. There may be some loss of processing speed and some lapses in memory. The emotional factors that affect middle adulthood start between the ages of 40-45. This is a time of anxiety and self-doubt during which people realize they are no longer in their youth or prime and become preoccupied with their mortality. Where people fear they have more to look back upon than forward to, also known as "mid-life crisis". When a person reaches their 50s the individual is more relaxed and productive. Many people in their 50s are learning to adjust to changes such as children leaving home, aging, change of health, and caring for aging parents. Stressful life events can influence emotions. During this period stressful life events can include the death of a spouse, the death of a parent or a sibling, marital divorce, or separation, change in health, and the need to care for one's parents (Rathus & Rogerson, 2023). In middle adulthood it is common for a person to be caring for their children and their aging parents simultaneously. This can result in a person experiencing stressors like burnout, sleep issues, guilt, depression, and anxiety which can have a negative influence on their well-being (Northwest Primary Care, 2020). What can a caretaker do to help alleviate some of the stress? A sense of control has been shown to mitigate the effects of stress and foster feelings of well-being among midlife adults. Having a support system, asking other family members or friends for help. Taking time for themselves, self-care.

It is good to remember that the situations of people in the sandwich generation (those taking care of both their own children and their aging parents) can vary, particularly when it comes to the ages of their own children and the health of their aging parent(s). Depending on the health of the elderly parent, they may need a lot of care and help from their adult child on a daily basis, or perhaps are well enough to handle things on their own. If aging parents (those in late adulthood) do need a lot of assistance, how might they feel about being taken care of in ways in which they were once completely independent?

1. Thank you for your post. I like how you pointed out the importance of staying grounded and if a caretaker is an option that they can help by taking on some of the hardships associated with this age group. You also mentioned it taking a village to raise children, and you are absolutely correct in that not only goes it changes, but it grows over time. The needs of children change and expand, and the village must be ready to grow and expand with the needs of the children and families they serve.
2 . I agree with you that having a sense of control and a support system can help mitigate the effects of stress. Not being able to do everything shouldn't make you feel bad. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, things just can't work out that way. So it's okay to ask friends or family for assistance. For example, if you are caring for your parents while also needing to go grocery shopping. Instead of being stressed about it, you could ask a friend or member of your family for a favor and ask them to do the grocery shopping.
