I have gotten daily data on the price of gold in US dollars (GoldPriceUS$) and an "index" of the value of the US currency. (Exchange RateIndex)I have created a variable called Trump which is 1 for days after the election and 0 before it.

You are saying that Trump impacted the markets, and he likely did.How to show it?

Need to create 1 othervariables in EXCEL one is called GoldTrump a When the variable Trump equals 1 GOld Trump equals (GoldPRiceUS$)"regular values" when Trump = 0 those values equal zero.

You want to do the model

ExchangeRateIndex = a + b1*GOldPriceUS$ + b2*GoldTrump + Trump

Notice that when Trump equals 0, the model has "no trump" when Trump = 1 the relationshiop changes.

So you estimate the model and before trump the model means

ExchangeRateIndex = a + b1*GOldPriceUS$

THe Trump Effect would be captured by"

ExchangeRateIndex = (a+Trump) + (b1+b2)*GOldPriceUS$

Your estimates will show that neither "Trump" or "b2" are different from zero meaning that Trump does not impact the relationship between gold price and exchange value of the dolalr. You can see the data in the spreadsheet "GoldTrump"

Please consider how you would replicate the above "stuff" maybe change it if you want.One idea would be to "shorten the trump effect, i.e. make the varialbe equal to 1 from like november to december, rather than from november to march.
