We are considering 2 projects with the projected cash flows detailed below. We would like work on projects that have a NPV greater than 1K, a ROI greater than 10% and a payback period less than 5 years. Should we act on either of these projects? Why or why not?

Project 1 (4 year timeframe):

Discount rate = 9%

Costs: One-time: 4k at the start (period 0), Recurring: 500

Benefits: 500 in period 1, 1500 in period 2, 1500 in period 3 and 5k in period 4

Project 2 (4 year timeframe):

Discount rate = 7%

Costs: One-time: 5k at time 0, and 500 in period 2. Recurring: 500

Benefits: 3k in period 1, 2k in period 2, 2k in period 3 and 3k in period 4
