Please solve the following questions using Hypothesis Testing by following the steps.

Steps in hypothesis testing:

1. Formulate the null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis.

2. Choose a level of significance to be used.

3. Decide the test statistics to be used, and find the critical value for the test.

4. Compute for the value of the test statistics.

5. Make decision whether to reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis.

6. State the conclusion.

Questions:

1. A teacher wishes to test whether or not the Modular Method of teaching is effective than the Traditional Method of teaching. She picked two classes of proximately equal intelligence (verified through an administered IQ test). She gathered a sample of 18 students to whom she used Modular Method and other sample of 14 students to whom she used the Traditional Method. After the experiment, an objective test revealed that the first sample got a mean score of 28.6 with standard deviation of 5.9, while a second group got a mean score of 21.7 with a standard deviation of 4.6. Based on the result of the administered test, can we say that the Modular Method is more effective than the Traditional Method?

2. A new drug is proposed to lower total cholesterol. A randomized controlled trial is designed to evaluate the efficacy of the medication in lowering cholesterol. Ninety-eight participants are enrolled in the trial and are randomly assigned to receive either the new drug or a placebo. The participants do not know which treatment they are assigned. Each participant is asked to take the assigned treatment

for 6 weeks. At the end of 6 weeks, each patient's total cholesterol level is measured and the sample statistics are as follows. At 0.01% significance level, is the new drug effective or not?

Treatment Sample Size Mean Standard Deviation
New Drug 45 195.9 28.7
Placebo 53 227.4 30.3
