Another insulation experiment is described by Hand et a]. as follows: \"These data were originally provided by the Electricity Council and give the total winter energy consumption in MWh of ten houses in the Fishponds area of Bristol, for a winter before the installation of cavity-wall insulation, and the winter energy consumption for the same ten houses for another winter after insulation was installed.\" (a) Explain why this is a paired-data experiment. (This can be answered with one sentence.) (b) Conduct an appropriate hypothesis test, at the 5% level of signicance, to determine if the extra insulation resulted in lower energy consumption. Be sure to include all steps of the hypothesis testing procedure. Show the substitution of values into the appropriate test statistic. Verify your test statistic value using R, and report the associated p-value. (c) Estimate the energy savings from installing cavitywall insulation with (i) a point estimate and (ii) a 95% condence interval. (d) What distributional assumptions were made in order to conduct the hypothesis test in (b) and to obtain the 95% condence interval in (c)? (e) What substantial fault does this experiment have? What kind of ancillary information would be useful for interpreting the results of this experiment
