The first question I decided to work on is the second one related to key elements in Southwest culture. First, as we can read on page 302 of the case, one of the strongest element a company culture's can have, in my opinion, is making sure that "employees felt good about what they were doing and felt empowered to serve the cause of Southwest Airlines" (Thompson). Indeed, like we discussed in class, employees feeling empowered and having a purpose in their work will be more motivated to come to work and will deliver a better job quality. Related to this key element, another important one is having employees that enjoy coming to work. Again, it is written that "The belief at Southwest [...] employees who themselves were fun-loving and spirited, who liked their jobs and the company they worked for' (Thompson) which shows another key element of their culture. Some other key elements could be the emphasis place on teamwork among employees, or the customer-satisfaction approach Southwest deliver. Based on that, it is possible to affirm that Southwest is a strong culture company. In fact, those key elements created a positive brand image which then helps in obtaining the interest from new talent but also to keep its employees. The job satisfaction playing an important role in retaining talented employees is key for this company as "job satisfaction' in an element that this company prioritize. However, with the departure of Herb Kelleher, few problems with sustaining the culture can be mentioned. This new CEO will face the challenge of dealing with this leadership transition while making sure to reinforce the key elements of this company's culture. All this must also be done while adapting to an evolving business to make sure this compary keep performing
