M2- CONTINUOUS DISTILLATION IN A PACKED BED COLUMN It is desired to fractionate a sub-cooled liquid mixture of ethanol-water solution in a tray-type distillation column operating at 1 atm. Liquid mixture is fed to the column at a flow rate of 360kg/min containing 45mole% ethanol. An ethanol fraction of 75 mole % is desired to obtain at the top product, and 5mole%, at the bottom product. Find, a) the percentage recovery of ethanol, [6 pts.] b) the reflux ratio, at which the column is operating, [2 pts.] c) the liquid (L) and gas (G) molar flow rates in the stripping section of the column, and find the stripping section operating line equation of the column. [5 pts.] d) the number of ideal plates by using McCabe-Thiele Method. Show the enriching section, stripping section, condenser and reboiler on the graph.
