Your group has decided to open a small manufacturing company together. A product has been selected and will be built using the Project parameters.

While you are preparing your base data your newly hired salesperson comes in with the companys first sales order. The first step now is to prepare a MPS for the planning period corresponding to weeks 5-10 on your MRP planning sheets.

The purchasing department has bought some opening inventories and has several open Purchase Orders at present with confirmed shipping dates. A few parts are still awaiting receipt of R.F.Q.s so have no opening inventories or scheduled receipts. Some purchased parts can be purchased in any quantity, while others must be in predetermined lot sizes. POQ is used on at least 2 of these parts. All manufactured parts will be made L4L.

You have identified the two most critical problem parts and decided to keep a safety stock on these parts.

The engineering department has identified two additional component parts that are being prone to breakage and wear in the field so your service department will require some replacement parts every week until engineering can redesign the parts and change the material specifications. These should be included in the MPS.

Prepare the initial MRP Planning Sheets on excel (use formulas where possible) for the opening production in your company incorporating the project parameters. You must submit your supporting BASE data along with the final project. Fill in all the required data and include your supporting documents.

Project Parameters

Pick a simple product or major assembly of a product with:

10-15 parts (maximum including FG and Sub Assy and Sub Sub Assy)

4 levels in BOM

there must be a quantity per of more than or less than 1 on at least 4 component parts. I.e. 2 per or .5 g

The detailed requirements of the preceding paragraphs

Sketch or picture of the product being manufactured

MPS reflecting sales order period 5-10 and service parts **We are in week 1 now and this would allow a 5 week cumulative lead time if you need it.

A product structure tree

An indented bill of material

Inventory File

Item master file including lot size, lead time, safety stock

Open order file for scheduled receipts

A completed set of MRP planning sheets on excel with all relevant data filled in.

An exception report for the first two weeks with the recommendations including both diagnostic and action messages.
