As you all are industry working professionals, please select
any real process system pertaining to your industry/ working area. The goal is to
develop a transfer funcon model for the selected process. For instance, a
person working in the petrochemicals industry may choose a disllaon tower
as the system or a person working in the pharmaceucals industry may choose
a reactor system, where certain reactants are converted into products. Similarly,
anyone from electronics industry may select a semiconductor manufacturing
system. There could be numerous examples of manufacturing processes with
regards to your process industry, which you must be well aware of. Aer the
selecon of a parcular process relevant to the industry, please implement the
following in a step-by-step manner:
1. Idenfy the control variables, manipulated variables, and the disturbance
variables.
2. Try to develop a dynamic model of the system using material and energy
balance equaons. You can do some literature review to directly obtain the
already exisng models corresponding to your work domain by searching a few
research arcles.
3. Perform degrees of freedom analysis.
4. Develop a transfer funcon model to correlate the control variable (output)
with the manipulated and disturbance (input) variables.
5. Idenfy if it is a first order/ second order model.
6. Consider unit step, ramp, and impulse inputs and idenfy the response of the
output control variable in me domain.
