QUESTION 2 (a) Refrigerant-134a enters a diffuser steadily as saturated vapor at 20C and it leaves at 500 kPa and 150C. The inlet area and velocity of the diffuser is 30 cm and 140 ms", respectively. If the inlet velocity of the refrigerant is 2 times the exit velocity, determine: (i) ( The exit area of the diffuser. (5 Marks) (ii) The heat input to the diffuser. (5 Marks) (b) A 5 m rigid insulated tank initially containing saturated mixture of water with 70% quality at 800 kPa is connected through a valve to a supply line that carries steam at 3 MPa. Now the valve is opened and steam is allowed to flow slowly into the tank until the pressure in the tank rises to 5 MPa. At this instant, the temperature of the tank is measured to be 600C. (i) Determine the mass of the steam that has entered to the tank. (9 Marks) (ii) Calculate the temperature of the steam in the supply line. (6 Marks)
