Polluted air contains 3% acetone and 2% water is fed to an absorption column. The air mass flow is 100kg/h. Pure water is used as an absorbent to absorb acetone from the air. The air leaving the absorber should be free of acetone and contain 0.5% water. The lower liquid water from the absorber, containing 10% acetone, is fed to a distillation column to separate the acetone from the water.
The bottom stream from the still was found to contain 4% acetone and the balance was water. The vapor from the top of the still was fully condensed and separated into two portions, one of which is recycled to the column and the second fraction forms the distillate stream. The condenser concentration is found to be 99% acetone. All percentages are in percent by weight. Calculate the flow of all unknown streams.
