Slavery to me is always been an interesting topic. When i say that its not the slavery itself but its more the psychological mind of a human being more specifically the "white mans". What i mean by that is I never understood why an individual who just happened to be the color white felt he or she was superior to the person whose skin color was black. Nevertheless, when slavery is mentioned one of the individual that comes to the minds of many on his impact on slavery is President Abraham Lincoln. The source that I was assigned is the Gettysburg Address. The Gettysburg speech occurred on November 19, 1863 and was one of the famous speeches by President Lincoln. The speech was dedicated to the Soldiers' National Cemetery at Gettysburg. The speech addresses the issue regarding the equality of men. Lincoln proclaimed that America was built on the idea that all men are created equal. Since this speech was during the civil war he talks about how the battle was fought for this claim and states that although things that were said may be forgotten however, actions would not. Lincoln used the deaths of many soldiers and other individuals to evoke the peoples emotions. He tells the people the basis of our great country, is that we are all supposed to be equal, and shouldnt all mean everyone, no matter their color? He points out that the individuals who died for this matter did not waste their lives. Instead they perished to provide freedom, and we shouldnt take it for granted
