Post a reason (try to make it one that hasn't already been posted) for taking, or not taking, the AP Exam. This posting doesn't need to address the results you found in step 1. Below are some "pro and con'' points to consider as you write your posting. While there may be a good reason for you not to take the Exam, we hope you will because you potentially have a lot to gain and very little to lose.
Pro:
- You've worked hard all year, and now it's time to show what you learned.
- If you don't take the Exam, you'll never know how you would have done.
- If you do get a high score, it will feel great! And if you don't get a high score, well, it was a worthwhile learning experience. It's better to know you tried than not to try at all.
- If the college of your choice grants credits for AP Exam scores, you'll save time and money.
- You don't want to be bored taking calculus again in college.
- Even if you get a good score and you aren't required to take calculus again in college, you can still re-take calculus in college if you want to make sure you learn all your college wants you to learn.
- Many colleges will place a student with a "2" into the introductory calculus class and waive the entrance placement exam.
Con:
- You may think you'll get a low score on the Exam, and you may not want to spend the money and go through the effort.
- Some schools give credit, but then still require students to repeat calculus depending on the actual AP score.
- College credit issued varies from college to college, and some schools don't give credit.
- You might not be going to college soon (or ever).
