Why may it be a struggle to get your point across?

In a school setting, especially in group activities, there are lots of ideas that may go around. Some students may talk as they are processing information and others may first think about what they might say. Each person has a different way of understanding information and ideas. Sometimes, an idea may be completely ignored because it's not fully understandable to others. So why could someone be struggling to get their point or idea across, and what are different methods to help explain yourself further?
