Prepare the CD or DVD which will be used as the diffraction slits. 2. If you are going to use CDs, remove the printed label using the duct tape or packaging tape. It would be better to use a CD without a label to make this process easier. You should also remove the reflective surface of the CD on the other side using the same method. Soak the CD in alcohol and gently brush off the remaining residue. 3. If you are going to use a DVD (thicker than CD and has 2 layers), you will have to split the layers by using a blade or scissors, ask assistance from your parents when using sharp objects. Take one layer of the DVD and peel off the reflective surface or the surface with label using the duct tape or packaging tape. Soak in alcohol and gently brush off the remaining residue. 4. Follow the experiment set-up shown in the image below. 5. Turn the laser on and point it at the clear disc, observe the pattern of light produced in the white background. You can turn the room light off to see the patterns better. 6. Try pointing the laser at different areas of the disc and at different angles then observe the pattern of light produced. Try to measure the distance of the interference pattern from each other. 7. Record your observations.
