At the end of this document you will find a Theme that your project must represent. I encourage you to look at the ODUHOF, the ODU Hall of Fame, for previous projects. There are some requirements that all projects are scored for. In addition you must submit a proposal that must be approved, that proposal is a contract that you will be held to. A sketch or other image is required. While some changes are allowed but others must be approved. For example you are doing a graphic of funny cats, and since I like kitties it is approved. Then later you decide to have a mouse added to the project. Since the addition does not impact the original concept no permission is required. However if the project was originally to be a collection of kittens sailing a pirate ship and you want it to be a single cat in a dark, closed closet, that change would probably not be approved.
Required components:
Your project MUST have multiple light sources
An example of reflection from a surface
An example of refracted light through an object
An example of a water source
Multiple surface textures
An example of a flame object with associated lighting
Well defined and appropriate color palettes
Optional components:
Use your .POV to create a series of .jpgs and generate a video (.mov) from it
Customized, e.g. student created textures
Customized, e.g. student created objects
THEME: Summer 2016
What exactly is an elf? Actually, not very tall, funny ears and the ability to live for hundreds of years. According to lore, elves are also artisans, and craftsmen. They like the aesthetic in life, beautiful places and beautifully crafted things. Your project you are to generate an Elfin city, the city may be deep in a forest glade, or in a cavern dark, or under the sea or even in the artic. Your proposal must include details about where your city will be located and specifics as to the shape and number of buildings where and what kind of lighting will be used, where and how the water source and flame will be placed.
This module more than any other has had the impact that students spend TOO MUCH TIME on it. That is because it is fun and amazing that by generating what appears to be C++ code you can create near photo realistic scenes. Please, I want you to do well, but DONT let your other courses suffer. With that being said I eagerly await your design proposal.
