PR 21-6A Process costing objs. 1, 4 KA The Okanagan Company has two departments-Forming and Finishing. Direct mate- rials are added at the beginning of the process in the Forming Department, and conver- sion costs are added uniformly. At the beginning of the month, Okanagan had 1,000 units in the Forming Department that were 40% complete. An additional 4,000 units were started during the month. At the end of the month, 200 units were 50% complete. Normal spoilage was calculated to be 430 units, and defects are detected when the process is 70% complete. All spoilage is related to current production (i.e., no spoilage is to be allocated to the WIP ending inventory). The total good output transferred to the Finishing Department was 4,300 units. Costs in the Forming Department were as follows: Instructions Direct materials Conversion costs WIP Beginning Inventory Costs during the Month $4,000 1,100 $22,000 18,000 1. Using the weighted average cost method, determine (a) the cost of goods transferred to the Finishing department and (b) the cost of the work in process ending inven- tory in the Forming Department. 2. Using the FIFO method, determine (a) the cost of goods transferred to the Finishing department and (b) the cost of the work in process ending inventory in the Forming Department.
