Practice Problem #2: Determination of Caffeine in Coke. Caffeine standards were prepared and the equation of the line for the calibration curve (IR versus ppm of caffeine) was found to be: y = 15.1x - 26.3. Four replicate samples of Coke were prepared by transferring 10.00 mL of sample from a 375 ml bottle to a 100.00 mL volumetric flask and diluting to the mark. The instrumental response readings of the samples were 37.4, 37.0, 37.1 and 38.9. Determine the amount of caffeine in the original 375 mL Coke bottle, and perform a statistical analysis on your final results (mean, standard deviation, RSD and M95% ca). (Hint: Do you have an outlier in your data?)
