The process involves the conversion of a raw biomass (which contains 50% moisture and 50% biomass) to a bio-crude oil and then further hydrotreating of the crude oil. - Biomass is mixed with a recycled stream of lower boiling (LB) point material (600F) and fed to a reactor. - The reactor product is separated into a higher boiling (HB) product (600F ) and a lower boiling (LB) product. - Some of the lower boiling (LB) material is recycled, but a purge stream is remixed with the higher boiling (HB) material and a hydrogen feed before being fed to a furnace for preheating before being reacted at high temperature and pressure in a packed bed hydrotreater (reactor for removing the oxygen in the bio-crude with hydrogen which generates water and leaves a "pure" hydrocarbon). - The water and non-condensable gases must be separated from the biofuel hydrocarbons. - Three products are desired: gasoline (bp 350F ), diesel (bp between 350F650F) and gas oil (650F).
