RedFlix is a new online on-demand video service which streams specific movies and TV show episodes to its members. The company wants to set up a database to manage data related to its shows, customers, and stream orders.
In order to become a RedFlix member, an individual must go online and register. Each customer must provide the company with their name, a credit card number, home address, e-mail address, and telephone number. Once registered, each customer will have an online profile which they can log on to if they need to update their billing data.
As part of their profile, customers can also register their preferences for the types of movies or TV shows they wish to see, such as drama, comedies, documentaries, musicals, etc. RedFlix uses these preferences to suggest specific shows to their members.
Once logged in, customers can browse listings of movies and shows and select any to view. RedFlix tracks the frequency by which its programs are viewed/streamed to assess the popularity of its inventory of programs. Sometimes a customer will halt a movie or TV show in mid- stream for some reason. A key feature of RedFlix is that the customer can on a later date return to the show and continue viewing it from the point where they previously halted it.
Cus tomers are billed to their credit cards for their subscription on a monthly basis. While the customers are not sent monthly bills or receipts, each payment is of course recorded for RedFlix's internal accounting purposes. This billing continues until a cu stomer notifies RedFlix that they want to cancel their subscription.
RedFlix has many corporate reporting needs. Not only do they wish to see their income from subscriptions, but they also want to look at regional differences in customer preferences for shows, the changing popularity of shows and genres over time, and- on a weekly basis-the top 5 movies and top 5 TV episodes that were streamed by their membership.
