Problem 2
The reaction
AB
is carried out isothermally in a continuous flow reactor. Calculate the volume of both CSTR and
PFR to reduce the concentration of A by 99%(CA=0.01CA0), when the entering molar flow rate
of A is 5molh and the entering volumetric flow rate v0=10dm3h for the following conditions
of reaction rate, -rA.
a)-rA=k, with k=0.05molh*dm3
b)-rA=kCA, with k=0.0001s-1
c)-rA=kCA2, with k=3dm3mol.h
Note, FA=CAv=CAv0(For a constant volumetric flow rate, v=v0)
Also, CA0=FA0v0=5molh10dm3h=0.5moldm3
d) Repeat parts (a),(b) and (c) to calculate the time necessary to consume 99.9% of species A in a
1,000dm3 constant volume batch reactor, with CA0=0.5moldm3.
