Problem 330T capacity cylindrical shaped ladle (L/D=1) containing liquid steel is loosing heat from the cylindrical surface and the top. The top of the melt is covered with slag through which heat is lost at a rate of 100kW/m2 while through the outer ladle cylindrical steel shell heat is lost at a rate of 35 Kw/m2. Given that specific heat of steel is 650J/kgC, using a lump parameter approach, calculate the rate of heat loss (in C/min ) from the ladle, if the thickness of the refractory lining + shell thickness is 400mm. The bottom surface of the ladle can be taken to be insulated
