Problem Statement Boilers are pressure vessels, which are used for constant pressure enthalpy gain. The walls of boilers need to be robust in design to sustain the pressure and heat of the working fluid. The mechanics and loadings on the wall of pressure vessel need to be understood to estimate performance. Take pressure of the steel boiler as 12-[sin R GPa while R is your roll number. 1. Explain the conditions of stresses and governing failure theories in case of the pressure vessel. (C-2) 2. Determine strains and stresses through the pressure vessel, considering it as thin walled pressure vessel. (C-3) 3. Design the pressure vessel such that the boiler could sustain the stresses determined above. (C-5) 4. Analyze the shear stress profile such that the vessel is subjected to residual stresses. (C-4) Note: Use of Finite Elemental Analysis to validate your calculations is highly encouraged.
