Project Assignment and create a Gantt Chart

Please do the screenshot of the Gantt Chart to the answer

Your project is the creation of a plan to finish off the grounds and shoreline outside a very spacious building in good condition, located on a 20 hectare rocky island but well forested, located in a beautiful Ontario lake. You are a government employee and have been assigned the task of coming up with a project plan for a service your department in the government can provide the public.

The intent is to keep the building with its existing deck and patio as is, but enhance the overall grounds and shoreline to support a public service. The building, deck and patio is out of scope for this assignment, if your project is approved someone else will be looking at enhancements in this area. Good news, your steering committee in your department has indicated you have up to $880,000 as your work package budget. You'll have to perform some research but you can assume your department could be in the federal, provincial, regional or municipal government. An island on a lake with an existing spacious building provides a unique opportunity to provide various public services. You have lots of shore line to leverage, a clean water lake for recreation, a forested property (you could remove a small percentage of the trees) and you have a rather large budget so there aren't many limitations on what you can plan but funds must be spent onenhancements to the island to deliver the public service you have chosen. Your project duration must be exactly 38work days.

No decks, fences, nor other buildings are allowed in this assignment as the objective is come up with the unique enhancements that will make your public service successful.

  • Do your research on what might be required to make the location as suitable as possible for the public service you come up with. As an employee, your project is to create the plan to build things and buy things outside of the building, not to actually build or buy them

Assignment details:

The names of the deliverables (including Work Packages) are written as nouns (things we want or want done), the activity names as verbs (how we're going to get the thing we want, or want done) -- this means you need multiple words in the activity names. You need exactly one (1) activity with the word purchasing or buying activity for all the materials you need for all your activities, and exactly one (1) with the word design in the activity name for the overall design of your project.

You need to create 20 or more activities, and your WBS needs to have a project level deliverable, 3 major deliverables , and at least 6 Work Packages distributed across the 3 major deliverables. Each Major Deliverable has to have at least one WP. You'll have your 20 Activities distributed across your Work Packages (WPs). Each WP has to have at least one Activity.

All activities have to be minimum of 1 day and whole numbers, but at least 10 of your 20 activities have to have a duration more than a day (vary appropriate activities between 2 and 4 days, you need at least one to be 2 days, at least one to be 3 days and at least one to be 4 days). None of your activities should show a "?" (question mark) in the Duration column.

The project level deliverable WBS code starts at 1 (level 1), all WBS elements must have a WBS code including activities. Do NOT start WBS code using a zero "0" for your Project Deliverable. Use a column for your WBS code.

Make sure your Gantt chart has a WBS column, as well as Duration, Work, Predecessors, and Start and Finish.

At least 4 paths in your Gantt View and at least 1 path has to be a critical path from the start activity through to the finish activity. In the Gantt VIew, click on the format tab and then the checkbox "Critical Tasks" to see your critical activities. Note, make sure all your tasks are set to "Auto Schedule" in the Task Mode column, and make sure all your activities are set to start "As soon as possible". If you have a small calendar icon in your first column, the "i" information column, then your activity is not set to "As soon as possible" and your red critical path may not be visible.

Two of your minimum of four paths have to benon-critical paths with 2 near- identical Work Packages being done in parallel. So to keep things simple, create a WP with 2 activities that can be performed twice in your project, like painting 2 separate bedrooms. You are going to crash one of the WP's to shorten the WP duration by shortening an identical activity in one of the WPs. You don't need to assign resources to any of your Activities except for these 2 identical activities in both Work Packages. In the example below, we have 2 identical work packages, one for each bedroom. Identical means the same activities and the same amount of work in the WP's, make sure you do this because we want to compare one work package (not just an activity) to the other that was crashed. We're using Painters and in the 2nd Bedroom you can see we used double the units of the Painters (200%). But we do want to ensure that while we decreased the duration in the 2nd Bedroom Work Package we did NOT increase the amount of work. You'll have to insert a Work column and a Resource Column and a Task Note -- and highlight colour the 3 cells shown in orange as well as colour the task bar that you crashed orange. You can right click on the bar, click on Format Bar, and then make the Middle/Colour orange. Make sure these 2 identical Work Package are NOT on your critical path.
