Project Name: Sustainable Agriculture ProjectTask: Goal: To build relationships with the agricultural community and create meaningful awareness regarding the interdependencies between agriculture and healthy wetlands and the potential for mutually beneficial outcomes. To motivate the agricultural sector to recognize and engage in sustainable agricultural practices that promote productivity while maintaining ecosystem services. Background and Problem Statement: In the U.S. alone, an estimated 53% of wetlands were lost over the course of 200 years from 1780-1980. To promote ecosystem services including recreation/education, water supply, flood control, erosion control/storm buffers, fish/pollinator habitat, through the restoration of grass and wetlands. Objectives: Design Thinking Teams will create a prototype with educational programs of a Sustainable Agriculture Experiential Learning Center at GVSU that partners with Ducks Unlimited.
