Project: Scatter Plot & Line of Best Fit Conduct your own experiment OR research data that shows a correlation between two variables. Be sure to use a minimum of 10 data points (15-20 would be ideal). ________________________ vs. ______________________ Create a scatter plot of the data by hand (no technology). Be sure to use graph paper.
***Intervals on x-axis and y-axis must be consistent and labeled*** Calculate the Pivot Point of the data and plot it on your scatter plot. Estimate the equation of the line of best fit using your Pivot Point and one other point on your trend line. {Slope Formula and Point-Slope Formula}. You must show all work for credit in this section. Estimate the r-value and describe the type and strength of the correlation based on the shape of your scatter plot. Use your estimated line of best fit to make a prediction about a value that is not in your data set. Calculate the equation of the line of best fit using technology. Use your calculated line of best fit to make a prediction about the same data value from above. How did your result from estimated line of best fit (by hand) compare to the result from the calculated line of best fit (technology)? Were they both reasonable estimates or was one much different than the other? Make a neatly decorated poster board that reflects the theme of your topic to place all of the work on. Visual presentation will be factored into final score.
