Project Scenario

Congratulations! You recently graduated with a finance degree and were hired at a financial planning firm. Eager to get started, you began cold contacting everyone you know to see if they have a financial planner they are working with. Despite hundreds of calls, DMs, and Snaps, none of your leads have generated a new client. After a long day staring at the computer screen, an unexpected power outage leaves your monitor blacked out. As your eyes adjust, you see your reflection in the computer screen, and it hits you. Your first client is....YOU! Get to work on wowing this client with your financial prowess regarding investment policy statements, risk tolerance, and mutual funds. If you put in enough hard work, you might just get a good referral from your first client.

Instructions

Each student will prepare a project based on themselves as a client. Include the following items in your project.

1) An investment policy statement that includes all elements listed in the CFA Institute's Elements Of An Investment Policy Statement For Institutional Investors https://www.cfainstitute.org/-/media/documents/article/positionpaper/investment-policy-statement-institutional-investors.ashx

2) A completed risk tolerance questionnaire based on your personal risk and return preferences. Include a reference to the source of the questionnaire you chose to use.

3) A list of three mutual funds and selected portfolio weightings that fits your risk tolerance and investment horizon. (See https://www.aaii.com/asset-allocation as a reference) 4) A reference page for all sources used for this project. The final product should be well organized and professionally formatted. You may review examples of investment policy statements online for inspiration but be sure to include a reference to these sources. Review the rubric for additional detail on project expectations.
