BACKGROUND AND CURRENT PRACTICE

The hospitality sector is struggling due to a shortage of staff. This sector has hit a record high in the past two years[1]. The recent pandemic has hugely affected businesses like restaurants, cafes, and hotels.It has been forecasted that this crisis will not be ending any sooner[2].

PROJECT AIMS/OBJECTIVES

The aim of the Robot Waiter project is to design and built a robotic server that will assist and serve customers in the hospitality sector. The robot will have the task of taking orders and serving the customers.

• Specific: Design and build a robotic server that will take orders and serve customers.
• Measurable: A Work Breakdown Structure system will be implemented. The progress will be measured at each phase after the completion of each iteration.
• Attainable: With the availability of modern technology the project is attainable.
• Relevant: After discussing with the team, the project has been found to meet the goals for which it will be initiated.
• Time-bound: The project's total duration is set to be accomplished within a year.

PROJECT BENEFITS

Advantages of the project:

• Assisting businesses to palliate the shortages of staff.
• Reliable as business owners do not have to worry about staff reporting sick or not coming to work.
• Consistent quality service.
• Less costly compared to humans.
• Robotic servers will be leased to businesses struggling with staff shortages, thus generating income.

START DATE & COMPLETION DATE:

The project start date is on 20 May 2022 and is expected to be completed by 19 May 2023.

Legal: - Making sure the project is carried out in a legal way.

Financial: Ensure that the project is accomplished within the forecasted budget.

Non-technical: - Establish an effective communication process, measuring milestones at each iteration to ensure that the project is on time and relevant.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES:

The project should meet the aims and objectives which have initially been set within the allocated time frame. It will be expected to build a fully functional robotic server that will assist in taking orders and serving customers.

Robot Shell: $40000 -50000

Software and application: $30000-35000

Expenses (Rent, Electricity, Internet): $15000

Salary: $50000

Tools and equipment (computer, wireless access points): $10000
