By completing this assessment, the students should show that they know when the secondary reports of psychology research are credible and how to gather additional information about research by finding, reading and evaluating the original research report. The assessment is due onSunday of Week 3 at 11:59 pm. Late submission will incur a penalty of5% per day(including weekends) of the total available marks. Due to the intensive nature of the program, under no circumstances will an extension be given for longer than 3 working days after the initial deadline. Failure to submit an assignment within 7 working days of the initial deadline will result in a mark of zero for the assignment. You must submit all assessments to pass the course. You are required to complete a critical reflection ontwo pieces of psychological researchpresented in the media. You can choose any articles from popular media outlets or popular psychology magazines that relate to personality, social, and cultural psychology. You will be required to find the original research papers published in peer-reviewed journals and to answer a series of questions related to these papers. You will also have to answer questions about the validity of the popular press reports of these research papers. For each research you need to provide the following information and answer the following questions:
  1. The date and source of the popular press article including the URL for the website (NOT INCLUDED IN THE WORD COUNT)(2.5 marks)
  2. Summary of the popular press article (this summary should provide enough detail so that someone who has not read the article would still have a complete picture of what it included. Make sure that your summary highlights the conclusions the average reader would be likely to draw about the research findings based on the coverage provided in the article)(5 marks)
  3. The citation for the original research article in APA 6thedition format (NOT INCLUDED IN THE WORD COUNT)(2.5 marks)
  4. Summary of the original research article (What was the research question/hypothesis for the study? Who were the participants in the study? What was the experimental design? Identify and operationalise independent and dependent variables, if any, in the study. What were the results?)(15marks)
  5. Is there an alternative explanation of the results? Explain your answer.(10marks)
  6. Compare and contrast how the same research findings are presented and discussed in the popular press report article and the original research paper.
