PURPOSE - To create your portfolio of at least 5 stocks. During the project, each student will document how stocks were chosen (journal); stock transactions that were made (buys/sells) (transaction document) and how each stock in the portfolio is doing each week for the project period. (tracking)Each student will liquidate his/her portfolio at the end of the project and submit the final report and spreadsheets by the calendar due date.PROCEDURES - highlights of detail in document link above -

  1. Invest $50,000 in at least 5 stocks (can invest up to $1,000 less than $50,000, the difference is put into a savings account which is also part of the portfolio)
  2. Keep a journal of what research was done - complete the spreadsheet provided with the project. This journal is the documentation of what stocks you looked at, what info you gathered about it, and the decision made (to include in the portfolio or not) This can be documented in the "notes" area. You may want to utilized PFP 38 for some of the things to look for when comparing stocks. The information isgathered once during the project for each stock researched.
  3. Keep a transaction history page (provided) of all purchases/sales - complete the worksheet provided. The headings are broken down into two parts (the purchase and the sale). The purchase asks for at what price did you pay, how many of shares and the fee ($50 at time of purchase and $50at time of sale). The price X the number of shares plus the fee is your investment in that stock (done automatically on the worksheet). The return on investment for the 8 week period is the earnings divided by the total invested ($50,000)
  4. Keep a weekly tracker of your portfolio (complete the worksheet provided). We are tracking the price of each stock in the portfolio once per week for 8 weeks. The savings should be determined by taking the $50,000 less the investments in each stock on the day of purchase less the total of$250in transaction fees. This number stays the same until stock is sold.

At the end of the project - each student will summarizethe results - which stocks are in the portfolio and what the results were (Did you make a profit, what stocks did well, which did not, etc.and "presented" to the class via discussion (a separate discussion forum has been created). The three worksheets are to besubmitted via the assignment toolfor the project.
