Purpose: To practice using software to perform a 2-sample t-test.

The file 'Soda.csv' contains responses to a recent survey asking respondents what % of their daily fluid intake is soda. Use software to analyze this data:

1.Test whether men and women are different, on average, in the % of their daily fluid intake that is soda. Use = 0.05. Consider the difference., whereis the average soda intake for men and is the average soda intake for women. You can consider the samples of men and of women to be independent.

a.Always begin data analysis with an appropriate plot of the data. Start with a side by side boxplot of soda consumption by gender. Include the plot here.

b.It is also a good idea to produce summary statistics of your data. Calculate the sample mean and sample variance for each gender. Include the output here.

c.Now for the hypothesis test - what are the null and alternative hypotheses?

The null is Male - Female = 0 while the alternative hypothesis is Male - Female 0

d.Which test will you use, the t-test for independent or dependent samples? What are the assumptions behind the test? Are they satisfied?

I used the 2-sample t-test for independent samples. The assumptions behind the test is that the data was selected at random which states that the sample is SRS. There is also more than 30 males and females for gender (169 females 167 males) which follows the CLT. Yes, they are satisfied.

e.Run the test and paste the output here.

f.What conclusion do you reach? State the reasoning behind your conclusion and interpret your conclusion.

P value is 0.74 which is large, and the null is not rejected. In conclusion data is not evidence that the genders, male and females are not different.

2.Calculate a 95% confidence interval for the differencebetween men and women in the % of their daily fluid intake that is soda. Paste the output here. Interpret the confidence interval - how does it elaborate upon the conclusion from the hypothesis test above?

It elaborates upon the conclusion from the hypothesis once the margin of error is considered since it gets close to zero. Results follow form the p value form the t test

The file 'SodaPaired.csv' contains responses to a recent survey asking respondents what % of their daily fluid intake is soda. These respondents were chosen as couples, not individually. Thus, each couple is a pair and each male is paired with a female. Use software to analyze this data:

1.Test whether men and women are different, on average, in the % of their daily fluid intake that is soda. Use = 0.05. Consider the difference.

a.Always begin data analysis with an appropriate plot of the data. Start with a side by side boxplot of soda consumption by gender. Include the plot here.

b.It's also a good idea to produce summary statistics of your data. Calculate the sample mean and sample variance for each gender. Include the output here.

c.Now for the hypothesis test - what are the null and alternative hypotheses?

The hypothesis null is Male - Female = 0 while the alternative hypothesis is Male - Female 0

a.Which test will you use, the t-test for independent or for dependent samples? What are the assumptions behind the test? Are they satisfied?

I used the data are dependent (paired samples) I used the t test for dependent samples. Assumptions are from the data and in this data there are 167 pairs in the sample which satisfies the CLT.

b.Run the test and paste the output here.

c.What conclusion do you reach? State the reasoning behind your conclusion and interpret your conclusion.

The p-value is 0.8723 which is large. Data is not statistically agreed to show that male and female are different. I accept the null because of the high p value.

2.Calculate a 95% confidence interval for the differencebetween men and women in the % of their daily fluid intake that is soda. Paste the output here. Interpret the confidence interval - how does it elaborate upon the conclusion from the hypothesis test above?
