Purpose:In this activity, you will be given the chance to discover how entrenched your chronemic habits actually are and the extent to which others are also affected by their time orientations.

Materials needed:None.

Procedure:Before embarking on this activity, think about your own values and conceptions of time. You will need to find an opportunity to interact with one or more people whom you think knows you and your typical chronemic behavior relatively well. Consider the following: Are you a punctual person or "flexible"? Do you often reminisce about the past? Are you always making plans and setting goals for the future, or are you completely spontaneous in your reactions to life? Do you do several things at once or concentrate on only one thing at a time? Are you always in a hurry, or do you like to take things slow and easy?

When the opportunity arises, you should behave in a manner different from or opposite to what you normally do (i.e., violate one of your time-behavior norms). For example, if you are always on time for meetings, classes, and so forth, show up late to meet friends without offering any excuses. [Don't be late to class or any important meetings.] Carefully and covertly observe the reactions of the other(s) to your time violation.

part 2

Post 1 discussion post briefly summarizing your experience with the corresponding Observation, and reply to at least 2 other discussion posts. Remember, everyone did the same observation, so make sure to highlight anything about your experience that you felt was interesting, odd, hilarious, etc. to make your post unique. You can discuss what types of reactions were observed in others (e.g., what was said or done by others in the situation) as well as in yourself (i.e., how did you feel violating your own norms?) In your discussion post (not required in the 2 replies), incorporate specific lecture/class discussion and/or textbook material.
