Q1. [70 points] Vistaprint produces monitors and printers for computers. In the past, only some of them were inspected on a sampling basis. However, the new plan is that they all will be inspected before they are released. Under this plan, the monitors and printers will be brought to the inspection station one at a time as they are completed. For monitors, the interarrival time (the time between consecutive arrivals) will have a uniform distribution between 10 and 20 minutes. For printers, the interarrival time will be a constant 15 minutes.

The inspection state has two inspectors. One inspector works on only monitors and the other one inspects only computers. In either case, the inspection time has an exponential distribution with a mean of 10 minutes.

Before beginning the new plan, management wants an evaluation made of how long the monitors and printers will be held up waiting at the inspection station.

Part a: Focus on the Monitors only [40 points]

1. Formulate a spreadsheet model to perform a computer simulation to estimate the average waiting times for the monitors over a period of 100 arrivals. [25 points]
2. Use Data Table to simulate 1000 replications of the model. Calculate the average waiting times for the monitors. [7 points]
3. Use Data Table to find the average waiting times when the Mean Service Time ranges from 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 minutes for the monitors. [8 points]

Part b: Focus on the Printers only [30 points]

1. Formulate a spreadsheet model to perform a computer simulation to estimate the average waiting times for the printers over a period of 100 arrivals. [20 points]
2. Use DADM tools to simulate 1000 replications of the model for the printers. Show the distribution of the Average Waiting Time in histogram. Report the mean, median, Min, max and Std Dev. Of the Average Waiting Time.
