Q1. Answer the following questions on condition of fluid. 1-1) When a fluid flows in a cylindrical pipe, a flow condition will be laminar or turbulent. The Reynolds number is a parameter for predicting the condition. Represent the Reynolds number Re with the pipe inner diameter D (m), average linear velocity u (m s), fluid density p (kg m) and fluid viscosity (Pas). 1-2) The flow rate of water is 0.1 L s and the cylindrical pipe in which the fluid flows has a diameter of 10 mm. Determine the Reynolds number for the fluid which has a kinematic viscosity of 1.010-6 m s, in addition, indicate the flow regime is laminar or turbulent ? 1-3) A tank of area 40 is draining in laminar flow through a pipe of diameter D and length L, as shown in the figure. Neglecting the exit-jet kinetic energy and assuming the pipe flow is driven by the hydrostatic pressure at its entrance, derive a formula for the tank level h(t) if its initial level is ho, assuming the pipe flow to be laminar. 1-4) Repeat the above derivation without neglecting the h (t) Area Ao . exit-jet kinetic energy and assuming the pipe flow to be highly turbulent.
