ProDent is a busy dentist.

There are four dentists, two hygienists, an Xray technician, a cleaner, and a receptionist employed by the practice. Patients full records are kept on their medical history.

New patients who are being seen for the first must complete a patient registration form that asks their name, address, phone number and brief medical history, this information is then stored in the practices database.

Patients contact the clinic to schedule a new appointment or change an existing appointment, and the receptionist checks for an available time.

Once a good time is found for the patient, the appointment is scheduled. When a new patient makes an appointment, the receptionist notes that a full patient history will be collected when they arrive for their appointment.

Where appointments are made in advance, the receptionist usually contacts patients a week before their appointment by email or text message.

Patients also contact the clinic to cancel appointments they cannot keep and also to amend their contact details (e.g. with a change of address or phone number).

At the end of the patients appointment, the dentist or hygienist records details of any treatment received and any further treatment required in the patients file.

The clinic also maintains records of all patient referrals, and medical results received from these (e.g. consultant referrals, x-ray or scan referrals etc.).

The patient pays for their treatment at the reception desk on their way out or, where applicable, the clinic records the relevant medical payment scheme and issues a receipt.
