q22

Steam at 40C condenses on the outside of a 3-cm diameter thin horizontal copper tube by cooling water that enters the tube at 20C at an average velocity of 2m/s and leaves at 33C. The latent heat of water at 40C may be taken as 2435103J/kg. The convective outside heat transfer coefficient (h0) may be taken as 9292W/m2C.The convective inside coefficient (hi) may be taken as 7357W/m2C. The density of the water may be taken as 996kg/m3 and specific heat of water may be taken as 4178 J/kgC. The resistance due to conductive heat transfer is negligible. Determine (a) the mass flow rate of cooling water, (b) rate of condensation of steam, (c) the average overall heat transfer coefficient between the steam and the cooling water, (d) the tube length. [2.5+2.5+2.5+2.5=10]
