Q3: Suppose you want to identify in the diagram below by identifying polygons (many-pointed shapes) that are coloured half in grey and half in beige. y Setting the Scene: e The diagram is a square coloured in beige and grey. e Diagram 1 below identifies the length of 1 and 2 units as an example. e Diagram 2 below depicts a parallelogram, where the grey region represents % the area of the parallelogram. We know this because the parallelogram is split in half parallel to opposite edges and one half is coloured grey. e Diagram 3 below depicts a rectangle, where the grey region represents % the area of the rectangle. We know this because there are four identical triangles and two of them are coloured grey, i.e., 2 out of 4, or ' are coloured grey. d Diagram 1 Diagram 2 Diagram 3 1 it Task: Outline polygons that have Y% their area coloured grey to satisfy all of the following conditions: i. You must draw your polygon on the square diagram. ii. You should use several copies of the square diagram so that polygons are not overlapping or touching. ili. You must justify why the grey area is of size of the polygon. The Jjustification can be done verbally as in \"Setting the Scene or visually by drawing the polygon on square graph paper and dissecting the area. iv. Your collection of polygons must contain 8 different types of polygons. v. Your collection of polygons must contain 8 different ways to subdivide the beige-coloured areas and grey-coloured areas. vi. Your collection of polygons must contain 8 differently sized polygons with areas between 1x1 square units and 8x8 square units. vii. You may be able to achieve steps iv), v), and vi) with a minimum of 8 polygons, but you are not asked to be this efficient. You can exhaust 24 polygons. viii. BONUS 1 mark: Find three different polygons with grey area of size 4, whose polygonal area is smaller than 1x1 square units. Note: A polygon is a closed, planar (2- 3 2 dimensional) object bounded by three or more E' - edges (straight line segments) with edges terminating in pairs at a vertex (corners) but not N @ intersecting otherwise. Only objects 2 and 6 in the diagram to the right are polygons. Remark: This task is adapted from \"I Spy 1/2 (2-3)\" on www.youcubed.org co- founded by award-winning math education researcher Jo Boaler with the explanation that \"Students build a deep and flexible understanding of % and one whole by trying to spy Y2 in a complex geometric image. [...] Seeing % does not need to be one contiguous piece is an important concept for composing and decomposing shapes and fractions.\" done checked corrected studied MTE O O O O
