Q4. (35) In the production of a certain vitamin (vit), the starting material is a slurry from a bioreactor (F). It is first centrifuged to remove suspended solids from the water (W). This partially wet cake (C) is then further dried by using a continuous filter to produce the product (P). However, the suspended solids from filter returned to the centrifuge for reprocessing (recycled stream R). Some of the flow rates and compositions are given below: F98 lb/h with 20% vit Product (P) with 96 % vit The wet cake from centrifuge (C) with 60% vit Recycled stream (R) with 28.6% vit (a) Draw the flow diagram. (b) List the unknowns. Write the material balance equations. Find the unknown flow rates. (c) Assume that the suspended solids from the filter is thrown away as a waste instead of recycling from the filter. What would be the flow rate of feed (F) if we still want to produce the same amount of product as in part (b)?
