QMBQW , f / ti [Om \\ SmartCans W 'i/CC/ A. THE NEED: As of 201 8, estimates gathered by the United States Census Bureau put the number of owneroccupied housing units (all households excluding apartments and condominiums) in the US at roughly 80 million, with hundreds of thousands being added to that number on an annual basis. That's 80 million homes of which the vast majority are required to take their trash and recyclables to the curb at least once a week. This task is one nearly all home dwelling Americans have performed in their lives, and yet, it is one which has never been improved in any meaningful way. While advances in technology have impacted nearly every other function of our lives, from smartphone communication to electric vehicle transportation, trash collection has been left by the wayside. As one of the most loathsome of household chores, the need for change is not only now, but is overdue. B. THE CONCEPT: W a technology-utilizing trashcan, the convenience and practicality that SmartCans offer to consumers does much to contradict any such notion. The automated cans, which haul not only trash but also recyclables, utilize technology that has revolutionized other products and will bring the process of trash and recyclable collection into the twentyfirst century. GPS enables SmartCans users to precisely map a route from the SmartCans' home station to the curb, allowing for movement around cars, toys, or any other potential obstacle. Once at the curb, SmartCans will remain motionless until its contents have been collected, at which point the can will then return to its home station for charging. It is here that other operations, such as the reprogramming of routes or the checking of the can's waste fill-levels, can be performed via the SmartCans app, which can be accessed across all smartphone platforms. This concept offers consumers the ease, convenience, and peace of mind they have come to expect from automated technologies. The ease is offered through the simplied app interface, where consumers can easily perform a multitude of tasks with minimal effort. The convenience is evident in the selftravel, self-charging, and selfmaintenance of each SmartCan. Peace of mind is afforded through the autonomous nature of the SmartCans system. When these factors are considered, those who at rst may doubt the usefulness of SmartCans will come to see the benets are certainly worthy of recognition. C. THE BENEFIT: The many benets offered by this product are all practical, warranted, and serve to make the day-to-day lives of their owners more convenient. Gone are the days of forgetting to take out the trash or recycle on their respective pick-up days, which would result in the repulsive decision of whetherto haul it to the dump in one's car or hold it for another week in one's garage. With SmartCans, consumer's need not worry about remembering to get their waste to the curb, which allows for consumer focus to be put on more important matters. The automation of SmartCans also eliminates the need for manual delivery of the can to the curb, which minimizes the chance of consumer infection by helping to avoid contact with a can that contains harmful bacteria and germs. SmartCans eliminate the frustrations of having to perform an undesirable chore, which in turn help to make the lives of its users a little easier, and thus, a little better.
