Question 01
You were hired as an engineer to evaluate some soil characteristics and conditions to which it is subjected. To do this, you obtained the information presented in the stratified soil profile below:
Based on the information above, do the following:
a) Calculate the vertical stress in the soil at the end of the hard clay layer indicated in the soil profile.
Considerations:
- Specific weight of water YƔgua = 10kN/m^3
- X, Y and Z correspond to the third-to-last, penultimate and last digits of the student's RA, respectively. Therefore, the resolutions are different for each student;
- For the example case of a student with example RA 1234567: X=5, Y=6 and Z=7. In this case, Ynat = (160+ (3.x)/10) kN/m^3 = (16+ 3.5/10) = 17.55kN/m^3 ;
h_na= (0.5+Y)m = (0.5+6)m =6.5m
Y_sat = (19.0 + (2.Z)/10 = (19.0 + 2.7/10) kN/m^3 = 20.4kN/m^3 .
