Question 1 (10 marks) Case -Forum Creates Enterprising Society The 4" national Micro, Small and Enterprise (MCSE) Forum was held yesterday at the Raffles Tradewinds Convention in Lami. The Forum was to reflect the need to craft a national strategy for creating an enterprising society More than 100 people from financial institutions, Government ministries, business providers, donors and non-government organizations participated in the one- day forum with the theme "Toward a strategy for developing sustainable MSMEs. In a statement, the Interim Minister for Industry, Tourism, Trade and Communications, Tom Ricketts reiterated the importance of promoting entrpreneurship and innovative Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) in Fiji's economy and the challenge of coordinating their efforts for MSME development in our current economic climate and integrating into the global economy. However, Ricketts was pleased with the response form participants who indicated their interest and commitments to enterprise development. He added the theme reflects the need for a national strategy on MSME to create synergies and make effective use of limited resources. One challenge faced is to make micro or small enterprise a first option for young people, so they can employ themselves and eventually other people," Ricketts said. He said many potential entrepreneurs have ideas but lack skills and capital to set up their business, therefore, they would make concerted efforts to connect these business requirements through improved collaboration between capital and service providers in the public and private sectors. Meanwhile, Governor of Reserve Bank Savenace Narube said while developing a plan was essential, all would fail when not implemented. He reminded the participants that they play different roles in support of SMEs and they should make a clear pledge to pull together support to see significant differences in the next few years for the betterment of the people of Fiji as a whole.
