QUESTION 1 20 MARKS A process liquid comprising of heavy distillate paraffins is pumped at a flowrate of 60 ton/hr from a storage tank to a fractionator using a centrifugal pump. The pipeline is Nominal Size of 80 mm schedule 40 commercial steel pipe. The pipeline is 200 m long. Miscellaneous friction head losses including rapid contraction of liquid from tank into the pipeline as well as expansion from the pipe into the fractionator are equivalent to 500 pipe diameters. The storage tank operates at atmospheric pressure and the fractionator column at 2 bara. The lowest liquid level in the tank will be 2 m above the pump inlet, and the feed point to the column is 6 m above the pump inlet. Calculate the power required by the pump. Assume that the pump efficiency as 75%. The properties of the liquid distillate are: Density 950 kg/m3 Viscosity 1.0 mN m-2 s
