Question 1
A reactor effluent stream with a flowrate of 1000 lbmol/h at 5 psia containing 30wt% of isopropanol, 60wt% of acetone and 10wt% of hydrogen is to be cooled from 600F to 350F with a pressure drop of 0.3 psia. This mixture is then separated in a flash column based on working temperature of 130F and pressure of 2.5 psia.
a) List TWO suitable thermodynamics properties method that suitable for this process and justify your selection.
b) Sketch a flow diagram for this process, along with available information (i.e. temperature and pressure). Use appropriate equipment tagging and stream number.
c) Based on the property package selected in (a), determine the heat duty of the cooler and flash vessel in kJ/hr.
d) Using sensitivity analysis, write the relationship between the effect of flash column TEMPERATURE on the flowrate of acetone and isopropanol in the liquid phase outlet of the column if the flash column temperature is varied from 10F to 55F. Tabulate the table below. (Note: Round up your answers to three decimal places, example = 4.731)
) What is the relationship between the flash column temperature and acetone and IPA flowrate in the liquid phase outlet of the column?
